The hugely popular show Game of Thrones has finally returned with its final season which began last night.

After eight seasons, that began in 2011, Kit Harington has played one of the lead roles as Jon Snow throughout the whole running of the show.

The show revealed this will be the last season of the Sky Atlantic show and Kit told Esquire Magazine how he unexpectedly felt during the filming of the final scenes.

He said: “My final day of shooting, I felt fine … I felt fine … I felt fine … Then I went to do my last shots and started hyperventilating a bit. Then they called, ‘Wrap!’ And I just f***ing broke down."

The 32-year-old also explained: “It was this onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this again. It wasn’t so much about Jon. It was about not being in this world, not getting to smell those smells, fight those fights, be with these people—the whole package.”

However, it seemed that the removal of his iconic Jon Snow costume was the most difficult part of saying farewell to the Game of Thrones era.

In heartbreaking comments Kit said: “It felt like being skinned,” before adding: “It felt like they were unceremoniously, for the last time, ripping off this character. I was still blubbering my tears."

Kit even explained how he wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye even after the last scenes were shot.

“I remember going, ‘Wait, wait, wait!’ And they wouldn’t. They just ripped. I was like, ‘I need to say goodbye.’ But it was too late. He was gone.”

The GOT star also appeared on The Graham Norton Show talking about the long running show's ending, explaining once again how his emotions got the better of him.

He told the host Graham Norton that he had wanted to sternly tell fans “not anymore” when they asked if he was Jon Snow, but things didn’t go to plan.

“When I left the set for the final time I was very emotional, and when a girl came up to me and asked, I broke down and cried, 'I used to be!' She backed off pretty quickly!”

Game of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic and streams on NOW TV.
