ConclusionOur study showed that acupuncture can significantly improve the parent-report ADHD-RS. Nevertheless, it did not improve the attention deficit. We recommend further investigations with larger sample size and longer follow-up. The adverse effects of acupuncture on ADHD patients were not assessed in this study, which can be measured by future studies.
(Natural News) Nerve conditions are a little tricky to explain to others, especially to those who don’t have them. Take, for example, trigeminal neuralgia (TN) – a condition that causes excruciating pain on the face even from otherwise gentle, painless stimuli. The lack of any concrete medical treatment makes prospects more harrowing for its sufferers, but…

Allergic rhinitis (AR), an IgE-mediated response, is characterized by a Th2-type immunological pattern together with mast cells activation. Acupuncture, with the use of implanted catgut, is a traditional therapy that has been widely applied for the treatment of AR. However, the exact mechanism of the immunomodulatory effects of catgut implantation at acupoint (CIAA) remains unclear, in part due to the lack of a suitable laboratory animal model. We developed and optimized a rat model of ovalbumin- (OVA-) induced allergic inflammation…
Purpose of review
To review important manuscripts published over the previous 2 years relative to sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD).
The long-term outcomes of the Evaluating Predictors and Interventions of SOD (EPISOD) trial further substantiated results from the initial EPISOD study, reinforcing that neither endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography–manometry nor endoscopic sphincterotomy are appropriate for SOD type III. Pain management in the latter patients has reverted to neuromodulating agents, and recent studies have suggested a role for duloxetine and potentially acupuncture. The f…
AbstractThe improved detection and successful treatment of breast cancer, resulting in better survival rates, has led to an increasing number of women living with the effects of treatment modalities and their long-term consequences. Menopausal symptoms following breast cancer can occur at an earlier age, be more severe and significantly influence a woman ’s overall wellbeing, in particular, sexual function, quality of life and adherence to treatment. There is a dearth of good quality evidence on the safest and most effective treatment options available for these women, and this article aims to summarize the current a…
(Natural News) A recent study updated the evidence regarding the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for patients who are afflicted with mild to moderate cases of Alzheimer’s disease. It determined that the traditional Chinese medical treatment was indeed safe to use and that it improved cognitive function for patients. The study was held under the auspices…
Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common multifactorial chronic skin disease that causes immense disease burden on patients and enormous direct and indirect health care costs for societies. One of the main symptoms, the leading clinical sign and one of the most quality of life affecting problems in AD is itch. Atopic itch is associated with the inflammatory burden and characterized by a multitude of mechanisms. It can be very difficult to treat and does not respond well to antihistaminic drugs.

We describe the case of a 28-years-old man who presented with urine retention.
Urodynamic study confirmed that he had urinary retention, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the absence of the sacrum.
He was treated with electro-acupuncture and medications to improve nerve function.
His symptoms showed clear improvement.
Although this case is rare, it indicates that the spine and pelvis may need to be examined when unexplained urinary retention occurs.
The conclusion of our systematic review will provide evidence to judge whether EA is an effective intervention for patient with IBS.
