(University of York) Research conducted by scientists at the University of York has revealed how recreational ketamine abuse damages the bladder.
This study provides a dendritic cell-based vaccine strategy which might reduce the risk of tumor recurrence and improve the efficiency of anti-chemoresistance of bladder cancer.

An existing body of literature shows that marital status and related social support are connected with disease outcomes.
Conclusion: Sarcopenia is present in a considerable proportion of patients with MIBC undergoing upfront cisplatin-based chemotherapy before planned RC. SMI decreases during treatment, but neither baseline SMI nor its kinetics is associated with response to chemotherapy.Urol Int 2018;101:1 –4

INTRODUCTION: Knowledge of the molecular subtypes of bladder cancer enables powerful generalizations involving the distinctive biology and pathways driving different disease subsets. Areas Covered: In this review, we summarize the findings of a number of published studies exploring the molecular landscape of bladder cancer by analysis of genomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). TCGA project has provided a comprehensive data resource of 412 muscle-invasive bladder cancers as characterized by multiple molecular analytical platforms. These data have been and will continue to be …
Dr. Daniel Goldstein reviews highlights in bladder cancer from ASCO 2018, including the novel agent erdafitinib as a treatment targeting fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) alterations in muscle-…

This study was conducted to determine if luminal and basal molecular subtypes are present in naturally-occurring canine iUC, a cancer that mimics the human condition in other key aspects. RNA sequencing was performed on 29 canine treatment naive iUC tissue samples and on four normal canine bladder mucosal samples. Data were aligned to CanFam 3.1, and differentially expressed genes were identified. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering of these genes revealed two distinct groups (n = 13, n = 16). When genes that distinguish basal and luminal subtypes in human cancer (n = 2015) were used to probe genes differentially expresse…
Biochemical reaction networks are one of the most widely used formalisms in systems biology to describe the molecular mechanisms of high-level cell processes. However, modellers also reason with influence diagrams to represent the positive and negative influences between molecular species and may find an influence network useful in the process of building a reaction network. In this paper, we introduce a formalism of influence networks with forces, and equip it with a hierarchy of Boolean, Petri net, stochastic and differential semantics, similarly to reaction networks with rates. We show that the expressive power of influ…
