After Dr. Hadiza Bawa-Garba was convicted for manslaughter for delayed diagnosis of fatal sepsis in Jack Adcock, a six-year-old boy who presented to Leicester Royal Infirmary with diarrhea and vomiting, she was referred to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal (MPT). The General Medical Council (GMC) is the professional regulatory body for physicians. But the MPT determines whether a physician is fit to practice. Though the tribunal is nested within the GMC and therefore within an earshot of its opinions, it is a decision-making body which is theoretically independent of the GMC.
The tribunal met in 2017…

Conclusion: The tumor control following repeat SRS for locally recurring metastatic brain tumors after a previous SRS is relatively lower than that for primary SRS. However, both low tumor volume and high prescription radiation dose were significantly related to the tumor control following repeat SRS for these tumors after previous SRS, which is a general understanding of primary SRS for metastatic brain tumors.

AbstractGlioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant form of the brain tumors and shows different genetic and epigenetic abnormalities. Gene amplification, genetic instability, disruption of apoptotic pathways, deregulated oncogene expression, invasive phenotypical changes, abnormal angiogenesis, and epigenetic changes have all been described in GBMs. These abnormalities indicate that a number of different signaling pathways are deregulated in GBM. Increasing number of studies provide a better understanding of the tumor biology, genetic, and epigenetic background of the GBM. Also, current research provides us useful…

This study investigates MAGEA2 expression in glioma tissue samples and its significance in predicting glioma patient prognosis. MAGEA2 protein expression in tissue samples was measured by immunohistochemistry and western blotting, and MAGEA2 mRNA expression was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Our results confirmed that MAGEA2 mRNA and protein expression levels were upregulated in glioma tissues, compared with normal brain tissue. The high expression of MAGEA2 in glioma tissues significantly correlated with World Health Organization advanced grade. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that high M…

Abstract
Glioma is the most common and serious form of primary tumor in adult central nervous system. HOXA11-AS is a LncRNA located in the HOXA gene cluster. In the present study, we investigated the expression and function of LncRNA HOXA11-AS in glioma tissues and cells. We found that LncRNA HOXA11-AS expression was markedly elevated in glioma tissues compared to normal brain tissues. The LncRNA HOXA11-AS expression in cases of high-grade glioma was significantly higher than that in cases of low-grade. Patients with high LncRNA HOXA11-AS expression had shorter OS time than those with low LncRNA HOXA11-AS expressi…

Abstract
Glioma is the most common type of malignant intracranial tumor in adults and is associated with the highest mortality rate. Although surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatment methods have progressed, the median survival of patients with glioma is only 14‑15 months. Glioma cells are able to penetrate along blood vessels and invade into the surrounding normal brain tissue so that an overall resection of the tumor cannot be performed. In the process of metastasis, the resistance of cancer cells to anoikis has an important ro…

AbstractEpilepsy is a common manifestation of glioma patients and negatively impacts on quality of life and neurocognitive function. The risk of preoperative seizures in patients with glioma is currently under discussion. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between tumor locations in the cerebrum and preoperative seizures in patients with glioma. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched from inception to July 15, 2017, for original studies including reports of preoperative seizures in patients with gliomas in different brain regions. The pooled odds rat…
