This study is designed to investigate the mechanisms of miR-22-Notch signaling pathway in apoptosis and autophagy of human ovarian cancer cells. After over-expressing miR-22 in human ovarian cancer cell lines OVCAR-3 and SKOV3, cell viability is determined by 2,3-bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide (XTT) method, cell apoptosis is observed by Flow cytometry (FCM), mRNA expression of miR-22 is measured by RNA preparation and RT-PCR, protein expression of Notch1, Hes1, Beclin1 and LC3B-II is analyzed by Western blot. It is suggested that miR-22 expression is heavily decreased in human ovarian …

Lynch syndrome is a hereditary cancer syndrome that substantially increases risk of developing colorectal and endometrial cancer, as well as elevating the risk of developing cancer of the stomach, ovaries, urinary tract, brain, and small bowel [1,2]. Lynch syndrome is caused by a germline pathogenic variant (i.e., disease-associated mutation) in one of four mismatch repair genes: MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2. Pathogenic variants in MSH2 and MLH1 are associated with up to 74% and 54% lifetime risks for colorectal and endometrial cancer, respectively, while PMS2 and MSH6 are associated with up to 22% and 26% lifetime risks for…

This study evaluated and compared the effects of DOX exposure from different formulations (free DOX, MMDOX and Doxil®) on the swimming activity, morphological alterations, cardiac rhythm, lethality rate and DOX biodistribution. MMDOX showed lower lethal effects, morphological alterations and neurotoxic effects than the free drug. This study shows the potential of the MMDOX to be an effective DOX-delivery system because it could reduce the side effects.

We presently forget 98% of everything we experience. That will go away in favor of perfect, controllable, configurable memory. Skills and knowledge will become commodities that can be purchased and installed. We will be able to feel exactly as we wish to feel at any given time. How we perceive the world will be mutable and subject to choice. How we think, the very fundamental basis of the mind, will also be mutable and subject to choice. We will merge with our machines, as Kurzweil puts it. The boundary between mind and computing device, between the individual and his or her tools, will blur.

Accumulating studies have reported the consistent overexpression of CCRK in cancers arising from brain, colon, liver, lung and ovary. Such aberrant up-regulation of CCRK is clinically significant as it correlates with tumor staging, shorter patient surviva…

Abstract
We herein report a 37-year-old woman with lung adenocarcinoma with brain metastases and an asymptomatic ovarian tumor. Immunohistochemistry and a fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis of the biopsied lung tumor revealed ALK gene rearrangement. Although the origin of the ovarian tumor remained unclear, alectinib administration was initiated, and radiological responses were observed in all lesions, which confirmed that the ovarian tumor was a metastasis from lung cancer. Although differentiating the origin o…

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between patterns of distant metastases and overall survival in metastatic ovarian cancer and identify prognostic factors for site-specific distant metastases.
METHODS: Data was obtained from the SEER database between 2010 and 2014. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were used to identify variables associated with overall survival. Survival times between different groups were compared using Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank tests.
RESULTS: We analyzed 1481 patients. The most common distant metastatic site was liver, followed by distant…

Abstract
Central nervous system (CNS) metastasis is a rare event in the course of late stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC); however its incidence is increasing in parallel with prolonged survival of patients.
OBJECTIVE: The authors assessed the clinical parameters and potential prognostic features in patients with CNS metastatic disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical data of the 33 patients from the participating centers wer…

The tumor microenvironment consists of a heterogenous population of cells which includes tumor cells and tumor-associated stroma cells (TASCs). The TASCs promote tumor angiogenesis, proliferation, invasion and metastasis. Because stroma cells are found in both healthy and cancerous tissue, targeting the tumor stroma has been difficult due to the lack of targets with high tumor specificity. TEM8 (also known as ANTXR1) is a cell surface tumor endothelial marker that is most highly expressed in human tumor-associated stroma of pancreatic, breast, colon, lung, esophageal, bladder, and ovarian cancers. While low levels of expre…
